Solace (2017) is an experimental short film about the necessity of grief — an ode to sadness. The film comprises a series of people crying in front of the camera. No explanation for their sorrow is given. Each person was left alone in the studio with the camera; none are professional performers.
Experimental short documentary film. (13min 22s)
With this film I wanted to explore the importance of accepting sorrow as part of life, while also offering the viewer a chance to feel compassion, and to experience the purifying release of crying. I hope the viewer can join those on screen in a shared moment, and find in it something cathartic and maybe even a chance to shed whatever sorrow they may be carrying.
