Everybody That I Love Will Die

When our friend passed away suddenly from an aggressive form of cancer, both my life and the lives of my friends changed forever. The carefree spirit that once defined our group vanished, and each of us began to confront our own mortality in new ways, viewing the future through a different lens. Over the past two decades, I have documented myself, my friends, and what we called our “last summer.” Now, that summer is truly over.

The series documents our lives from our restless 20's into our, sometimes, settled-down 40's with station wagons, mortgages and kids. It is a rough but tender look into growing up and growing older. It also documents how photography has changed from film to first low quality digital cameras, then to mobile phones. A large part of the series is before social media became the main way of documenting our lives. Thus the series is not polished, but shows a world where we didn't yet build brands of ourselves.

The series consists of around 150 photos taken over the last 20+ years. A photobook is scheduled to be released in 2026.

This is a deeply personal and emotional series for me. I can see how friends and relationships come and go, some stay, others drop off. What we were, and what we have become.
