When a close friend passed away suddenly from an aggressive cancer, my life — and the lives of those around me — changed forever. The carefree spirit that once defined our group vanished, and many of us began confronting our own mortality in new ways, seeing the future through a different lens. Over the past two decades, I have documented myself, my friends, and what I've called our "last summer."
Now, that summer is truly over.
The series follows our lives from our restless twenties into our, sometimes, settled-down forties — station wagons, mortgages, and kids. It is a rough yet tender look at growing up and growing older. It also traces how photography itself has changed: from film to early low-quality digital cameras, and then to mobile phones. Much of the series predates social media as the dominant way of recording our lives, so the images are unpolished — they show a world before we started curating versions of ourselves.
The series comprises around 150 photographs taken over more than 20 years. A photobook is scheduled for release in 2027.
This is a deeply personal series for me. I can see in it how friendships and relationships shift over time — some endure, others quietly fade. What we were, and what we have become.
